Lakshmi Haar

The queen of Kerala temple jewellery

The Embodiment of Divine Grace

The Lakshmi Haar is the most revered necklace in the Kerala temple jewellery tradition. Named after the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity, each pendant bears a hand-carved image of Lakshmi seated on a lotus, flanked by elephants performing abhishekam. The necklace descends in graduated tiers of deity medallions, each one individually carved using the nakshi technique, a method of chiselling narrative scenes into gold that has been practised in Thrissur for centuries. Worn by brides as the centrepiece of their wedding jewellery, the Lakshmi Haar is not merely an ornament. It is a prayer made visible.
